     With the elimination of exotic bird imports since 1992, except for some common species, it is necessary to promote the breeding of species for offspring of the better pet varieties and for other breeders in the case of rarer birds. A Species Breeding Partnership of breeders of the species is the best opportunity of filling these needs. 

Values of the Partnerships include:

• Finds unrelated mates for breeding;
• Creates markets for your babies;
• Promotes sharing of breeding information;
• Reduces temptation to inbreed or mix species;
• Promotes feeling of community, that you’re not alone;
• Encourages a feeling of doing something for the conservation of the birds we already 
• have in the U.S.;
• If conditions are met and it’s OK with CITES (thru USFWS), a proven Partnership, because it is an established group with the support of a federation, might by permit, import certain birds arranged for in the host country.

To be a Partner:

• It’s free;
• Communicate with your Director;
• No special bands to buy, but you are required to use them;
• No club or society membership is required;
• Willingness to follow these guidelines:
1. Close band all young with any traceable band (this avoids inbreeding and provides a means of identification);
2. Keep breeding records on your premises;
3. Give a species education sheet to your buyers whether for pets or breeders;
4. Be extremely cautious to whom you sell your birds;
5. No using hybrids in species breeding and/or in the Partnership dealings;
6. Communicate with your Director on your breeding successes, failures, or any interesting information you may have found on the particular species;
7. Do not sell un-weaned birds to just anyone;
8. If you can, C-band any birds not already marked.

• Communicate actively with Partners by mail, e-mail, and/or phone;
• If a Partner is looking for a particular bird, send the request to all Partners and you will be contacted directly by the Partner with the bird(s) you are seeking.  Partnership information is kept confidential and I will not provide any telephone numbers without specific permission.
• Send Breeder Information Guides (BIGs), which are provided to me by B.C.A.;
• Provide Partners with Species Support Pages;
• Collect articles and any other important or interesting information on the species and send to the Partners;
• Forward annual B.C.A. updates to Partners;
• Collect and keep Partner forms and information safe and confidential;
• Report to the National BCA Director semi-annually on the progress of the Partnership.
